Adopt-a-Park Program

Our family oriented adopt-a-park program is the largest of its kind in Calgary. Every year over 100 people work together in large groups and small units to clean the park, eradicate invasive plants, educate pathway users and reduce vandalism of the park's amenities.

Some of these things happen within the context of grand events or special days, such as the Annual River Valley Cleanup. Others are organized on a smaller scale, such as the near monthly Weed Pulls organized by the Invasive Plants Committee during the growing season.

Some of the most valuable work undertaken by our Adopt-a-Park volunteers, however, happens on a day to day basis behind the scenes, such as when a family walking their dog politiely reminds other dog owners that the park is not an off leash area. Or when volunteers out for a stroll pick up litter along the way.

However they do it though, the Society appreciates the efforts of the many families and individuals who do their part to make Weaselhead a special place. And to say THANK YOU, the Society sponsors two, large outdoor events every year -- on Victoria Day and Labour Day.

Both of these events, the Weaselhead Victoria Day Kick Off and the Weaselhead Labour Day Volunteer Classic, are family oriented events featuring great food and great fun. They are the best opportunties we have for meeting everyone in our society -- web volunteers, park volunteers, board volunteers and staff -- and for building the strong personal bonds that will ensure the continued preservation of Calgary's most ecologically diverese natural area.
