White-breasted Nuthatch

The woods in this area are dominated by spruce and balsam poplar. Many of the trees here are older than Calgary.

White-breasted Nuthatches are commonly spotted in this part of Weaselhead. They and their cousins, the Red-breasted Nuthatches, are the only birds in Alberta able to walk headfirst down the trunk of a tree.
