Hairy Woodpecker

3.56 MEG file -- may take awhile to load

You must install the free QuickTime player from www.quicktime.com before you can view this movie

During nesting season, Hairy Woodpeckers build a series of nearby false nests in addition to the nest they ultimately use. Some of these nests are little more than an entrance hole. Others are nearly completed. In this video a male Hairy Woodpecker builds a false nest that ends up to be not much more than an entrance hole.
