General Description

By Gustave J. Yaki

The Brambling breeds throughout Eurasia, but there are numerous sightings of it in autumn and winter on both the Atlantic and Pacific sides of North America. There are two known Alberta records. One was photographed near Edson when it visited a feeder from November 1988 through to January 1989. Another one was also photographed at Claresholm when it visited a feeder there on 20-21 December 1993.

Being a member of the Finch Family, it is mainly a seed and berry eater, although it takes insects during the summer months.

Bramblings build a cup nest near the trunk of a pine tree. The 5-7 eggs are incubated by the female 11-12 days. The young fledge when 11-13 days old.
