General Description

By Nora Bryan

If you are lucky enough to spot an Emerald, it will probably be the American Emerald. The American Emerald is widespread in early summer except for grasslands, around ponds and lakes. Their flight is direct with periods of hovering.

This Emerald is about 45 mm (1 ¾ in.)long, with a jade-black slightly club-shaped body and brilliant green eyes, which are the hallmark of the Emerald Family.
